TreeWalk Site Styles

We've got style! This page offers a Javascript Style Switcher so that you can easily surf the site using one of our Alternate Style Sheets. JavaScript is required for these "Session-only" choices, which maintains your style preference for the remainder of your visit. Your style selection may be lost as soon as you close the browser, which means you will need to re-set your preference the next time you visit. Simply come to this page from the "Switch Styles!" link in the left menu (it's placed immediately after our site search function on most of the site's main pages). If you don't allow Javascript, you can view screenshots below. Also, some modern browsers and add-ons may disrupt our multiple styles. Review Browser Problems below for some possible solutions.

What the scripting does: Browsers may need to cache any new images as you move around the site, so you might notice that uncached pages will show the default style until all page components are loaded. The JavaScript looks for a saved preference each time, and if no such preference is detected by the script the Default Style Sheet will be implemented. If JavaScript is disabled for your browser you will only receive a notice which states "You'll need JavaScript and Cookies enabled to use our Style Switcher!" in place of the "Available Styles" menu above where you can select your preferred style from.

Currently, the cookie function "createCookie("style", title, 0);" is set to zero which only maintains a preferred style for the duration of this visit, so that's why you may not see a cookie file in your cache. If the zero value was set to one, then the Javascript routine would create a cookie in your cache that would last for 1 day, thereby saving your preference for 24 hours. This might be changed in the future upon popular consensus, but a dated notice will always be placed here if any adjustments are made to this code. If this function is ever enabled the cookie will never contain any personally identifiable information about you, as is further explained and detailed on our site's Privacy Policy page.

Why JavaScript? Well, we'd like to leave the choices up to you, rather than implementing another scripting language to "force" this functionality.

Browser Compatibility: Opera users and Geckophiles (users of browsers based on the Gecko Runtime Environment like Netscape, Mozilla or Firefox) need only to access the "View" menu to see our styles, but those users may need to select a particular style each time they view a new page of our site. The JavaScript mentioned above should work equally as well for current versions of those browsers too, when desired.

Browser Problems

BitDefender Online Scanner: If you have installed "BitDefender Online Scanner v8" you will not be able to use the alternate style sheets. "BitDefender Online Scanner v8" can be removed directly from the browser. If you wish to do so, please review this BitDefender FAQ page.

Firefox and NoScript: You will need to allow scripts for the TreeWalk site to use the style switcher with Firefox and NoScript.

Other script-blocking software: Many security-related programs may block scripting by default. Please check their own documentation if you wish to unblock or whitelist the safe, benign style-switcher scripting that this site provides.

Why bother? Well, as the Internet becomes more and more of a diverse arena, so does it's users. The TreeWalk DNS site wants to provide as much diversity and accessibility to all, and one way to help accomplish that goal is to provide valid coding wherever we can.
